What is the "Helfende Wände" initiative?

Helfende Wände: Helping Refugees from Ukraine Find Homes     In partnership with the non-profit organization ProjectTogether, Wunderflats' platform links housing providers offering all types of accommodation to refugees from Ukraine looking for homes according to their needs. How can I offer housing?

Accepted Answer

If you would like to offer accommodation (entire apartment, house, private room or shared place), you can post it here.     Any accommodation you are willing to rent to people in need makes a big difference. Offering it at a lower rent or, if at all possible, at no charge is a huge plus. Please consider offering your available space for at least one month.     The places you make available here can only be rented by people displaced by the war in Ukraine. How do I create a listing for people displaced by the war in Ukraine?

The Helfende Wände platform connects people offering housing with refugees from Ukraine looking for a home.     You can register and create an online listing for your accommodation here. Please provide the following information in your listing:   - The address of your accommodation to indicate to the searchers the approximate location (the exact address will not be visible to the public).  - The minimum booking duration is one month. We’ve learnt that the people in need who come to us appreciate mid- or longer term housing offers that enable them to regain a little stability.  - Choose the amount of rent or set it to 0€. Currently, two thirds of the people registered with us offer free housing for people in need.   - The maximum number of people you can welcome.  -  The type of accommodation, the size of the living space, the number of rooms, and the floor on which the accommodation is located.     Some fields of the listing are already pre-filled, but they are editable for you:    - Please change the default setting from Pets Not Allowed to Pets Allowed if you allow pets.  - Your listing will automatically be pre-filled with basic information in German/English and Ukrainian. You can update the listing at any time.     The last step is to publish your listing. Afterwards, your housing offer can be requested by people in need. If you receive a request, you will be notified via email. You can view the request in your Wunderflats account   and ideally accept it. To accept your first request we will ask you to verify your identity. In order to ensure safety for both sides we will also verify the tenants.   After accepting, you will receive the contact information of the tenants to coordinate the move.

How can refugees from Ukraine find accommodation?

Accepted Answer

The Helfende Wände platform connects people offering homes and refugees with in need of temporary homes in Germany: housing offers are listed online by city.     People from Ukraine can request suitable options directly online. We forward these requests to the landlords, and as soon as there is a match and the person in need has verified their identity on our platform, we will share their contact details. They can get in touch to arrange the move.      These offers are made available exclusively to people displaced by the war in Ukraine and can only be rented by them. Do you verify landlords and displaced people from Ukraine?

Accepted Answer

Having a secure environment is central to the Helfende Wände platform. Together with Veriff Wunderflats verifies both home providers and people from Ukraine. The personal information needed for verification will not be stored or published.     Wunderflats offers rental agreements in German, Russian and Ukrainian for the housing initiative.

Does Wunderflats earn any money with this?

Accepted Answer

No. We offer services on the Helfende Wände platform free of charge both for those offering their homes and those looking for them.

Question 7

How does Wunderflats protect the data provided by landlords and displaced Ukrainians?

Accepted Answer

Security is a top priority for us at Wunderflats - and this includes the issue of data security.   We never publish any personal data - neither from housing providers nor from people looking for accommodation.   All personal data related to Helfende Wände will only be used for our efforts to provide available housing to people from Ukraine in need. All participants can request the deletion of their data at any time. Wunderflats acts as a data controller in accordance with Wunderflats' privacy policy.

Question 8

How can landlords safeguard their property and accommodation during the period of tenancy?

Accepted Answer

We generally recommend that all our landlords take out liability insurance or household insurance to protect themselves against any damage that might occur.

Question 10

What are the current entry regulations for people from Ukraine and where can I find more information?

Accepted Answer

Displaced persons from Ukraine can enter Germany without a biometric passport and visa or any other residency title. To receive a temporary residency permit according to § 24 AufenthG they will have to apply at the responsible agency for foreign nationals upon arrival.
